5 Tips For Looking After Your Car In The Cold
5th January 2018
We're all guilty of taking our cars for granted, and it's easy to forget that when the cold wintery months eventually roll around, your car can struggle to cope.
Avoid the risk your car might not start in the morning by choosing where to park wisely. If possible it's always best to park under cover where it's dry and warm, like under a carport or in a garage.
If you don't have either of these then parking in the lee of your house is a good idea, or beside a tall hedge. Both will help to protect your car from the weather, and you'll spend less time ice-scraping in the morning before you set off as a result.
Keep it clean
When driving conditions are wet and cold, lots of people think there's little point keeping the outside of their car clean; after all, it's only going to be filthy after a trip on the motorway anyway, right?
Keeping your car clear of wintry muck will help you to avoid corrosion and rust. If you don't fancy digging the bucket and sponge out yourself, take it to a hand carwash - there's plenty to choose from in Beverley.
Clear out the interior
With journeys taking a little longer in wintry conditions, it's best to make sure your car is as comfortable as possible. That means regularly clearing out litter, and wiping down the windows and door sills, along with keeping the dashboard clean.
Again, if you don't fancy doing it yourself, lots of the car washes offer a reasonably priced valeting service to save you the job.
Pack an emergency kit
Anyone who's ever broken down in winter will agree that the wait for that tow truck can feel like forever, so make sure you have some essentials in your vehicle in case you do break down.
If you do break down or get stranded in traffic you'll thank yourself for packing the likes of a blanket, a big bottle of water, some emergency snacks, a first aid kit and book.
