Hydrogen Vehicles: Thoughts, benefits, and newly released products
9th November 2021
Hailed by some as the future of motoring, Hydrogen vehicles are seen by some experts as a great solution to having more environmentally friendly methods of transport. Hydrogen vehicles are electric vehicles, with their power being generated by a series of chemical reactions between hydrogen and oxygen rather than being stored on board in a battery topped up through a plug.
Hydrogen vehicles all have the same goal in combining hydrogen and oxygen in a fuel cell stack to produce water and electrical energy, so what benefits do they offer?
Not only does refuelling hydrogen tanks from a pump takes less than five minutes, but once drivers are on the roads they will enjoy smooth zero emission journeys.
There continues to be developments in hydrogen technology as it offers other benefits, such as being a uniquely clean energy source that can produce heat, and whose only by-products are water.
There are several advantages over other power sources, including the basis that it is renewable and readily available, it is more powerful and energy efficient than fossil fuels, no noise pollution, and reductions in carbon footprints. Hydrogen’s vast range of use also provides great flexibility in design for leaders in hydrogen fuel cell technology like Toyota.
More and more products are being released, and Toyota’s fuel cell technology has already made a difference on land and sea. From next year it will power an entire community; Toyota’s Woven City, a prototype city at the base of Mount Fuji, will offer a fully connected ecosystem powered solely by hydrogen fuel cells.
The Government has revealed the UK’s new and first-ever hydrogen strategy that aims to help the UK use the green fuel to power everything from homes to cars. As an energy source it could play a crucial role in helping the UK cut emissions.<< Back to Blog
